04. Publish Your Guide             Print Page

Guide Status Options

  • Unpublished - default status when you create a new guide.
  • Published - your guide is available to everyone and displayed on the home page under "Most Recent".
  • Private - only people who know the URL of the guide know where to access it.

Guide URL

Your newly created Guide has a unique and permanent URL. In addition, every individual page on your guide (represented by tabs) also has a unique URL. Click on "Change Status" link next to the Guide title to see the permanent URL of your Guide.

Putting Finishing Touches

When you create a new Guide, its default status is "Unpublished", and you must manually publish the guide to make it visible to others. Before you publish your Guide, you may want to customize the look and feel by clicking on the "Guide Options" (in the upper right corner of the screen) and then selecting "Change Layout/Colors" option. Pick among the many color combinations and different shapes of boxes.

When you are ready to publish your Guide, click on the "Change Status" (above the tabs and below the guide description) and select "Published" (if you want anyone to have access to it), or "Private". When your guide is private, only people who know the URL of the Guide can access it - the Guide will not appear in the list of Guides on the main page (but people can find it by following tags, if you associate tags with this Guide).

Even after your Guide has been published you can still edit it, make changes, add new content, etc. The "Status" flag only determines whether the Guide is visible to the public - it has nothing to do with your ability to make changes to Guides.  So, the idea is that you can change the content over and over until it's what you want and save it in between and when it's ready - then publish it.

Contacting Support

At the bottom of every page (in the footer) there is a link to contact Springshare support. Just click on "Report a Support Issue" link and fill out the form explaining the problem you encountered. We will get on it, right away! Thank you. Happy Springsharing!
