Structure of your Guides

What is a Guide in LibGuides?

A Guide in this system can be any content that you create, on any topic, for any purpose. You can create as many Guides as you want. Don't be shy. Share you knowledge with others and point them to useful resources and information within your library and on the Internet.

Your Guides consist of pages, and each page is represented by a tab on your Guide. When you create a new Guide a "Home" page/tab is automatically created for you. You can put all your content inside that "Home" tab, or (this is a preferred and recommended option) you can create more pages/tabs to better organize your guide for users.

You add content by putting content boxes on a page/tab. So, the hierarchy goes something like this: Guide -> Pages -> Content Boxes -> Stuff you enter inside the content box (could be text, links, podcasts, rss feeds, videos, polls, etc.).

2 Column vs 3 Column layout
Content boxes on a Guide can be organized in two column or three column layout. The right column is always reserved for the Guide owner's profile box (you can hide the box by clicking on the "x" icon in the upper right corner of the profile). No other content can be placed in the right column.

In a three column layout (which is default), you can place your content boxes in the left (narrow) column, and in the center column. A two column layout gives you one very wide column for your content, and the right column for the profile. You can toggle between two column and three column layout at any time by selecting "Toggle columns" option under "Page Options".
